Cory and Mike Puffett, DeMatha's head cross country coach, at a meet in Sept. 2012 |
While at DeMatha, Cory competed on his school's cross country and track teams. After placing second in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Cross Country Championships his freshman year, he went on to be the only male athlete in the WCAC to ever win three cross country titles. He also placed highly in his conference on the track, earning three top-3 finished in the 3200m run. His senior year, Cory qualified to compete at the Footlocker Cross Country Championship in San Diego.
Following his high school career, Cory committed to run cross country and track at the University of Maryland. After a successful freshman cross country season, he struggled during outdoor, but kept his spirits up through blogging.
Cory created Puff on the NFL in January 2011. Through doing so, and posting his updates on Facebook, Cory developed a special sports-based friendship with Eric Meyer and Saswat Misra.
The idea to join up for a radio show came about in the Summer of 2012. Misra had been on a sports talk show the previous spring, but the other members of The Pregame Crew chose not to continue the show.
Cory no longer runs for the University of Maryland, though he does still attend the university while studying as a Broadcast Journalism major. In addition to his work with The All-Sports Crew, Cory is an assistant coach with DeMatha's cross country team (see picture) and a youth baseball umpire. Cory also works as a camps counselor during the summer.
Cory is an avid follower of the NFL and of Major League Baseball, but does have his favorite teams.
Puff's favorite NFL team is the Washington Redskins, with the Indianapolis Colts a slightly distant second. He is currently also pulling for the Denver Broncos, but admits this is only because of his favorite professional athlete of all-time, Peyton Manning.
Cory's favorite MLB team is, and has always been, the New York Yankees. He picked up the Washington Nationals when they moved from Montreal and has become increasingly obsessed with the team, but still feels loyal first and foremost to his Yankees and his favorite pro baseball player, Derek Jeter.
