A Football Life, Week 8

This marked our final week of divisional games until the final three weeks of the regular season. Everyone has faced each of their division rivals once at this point.

Andrew extended of streak of 100-point games to open the season to eight. This ties the all-time league record, set by Andrew and Anthony last season. Andrew has been the last (or tied for last) team on such a streak each of the past three seasons now (the threshold was 88.9 points in a game prior to expanded starting lineups in 2016).

Andrew also was involved in the 17th game in league history decided by one point or less as he beat Cory by 0.3 points. Both owners are now 1-3 in such games. This is the first time in league history that there has been a game decided by one point or less in three consecutive weeks.

Anthony led the league in scoring with 137.5 points for his ninth career Tom Brady Award. He also won the game of the week for his 10th career Peyton Manning Award. It is the 13th time in league history that the top scorer won the game of the week and the third time it has happened this season.

Russell Wilson gave William 36.5 points, good for #16 on the all-time single-week leaderboard at the quarterback position. DeAndre Hopkins scored 32.4 points for Danny, putting him at #24 on the wide receiver list. Two tight ends made the top 40 at their position, Jack Doyle at #30 with 24.1 points for Anthony and Travis Kelce at #40 for Danny.

Anthony’s 137.5 points is good for the 38th highest single-game team score in league history. Danny put up 130.8, good for #70 on that list. William scored 126.7 points in a loss, the fourth highest total in a loss in league history.

In all, our 12 teams scored 1349.1 points this week, good for #8 in league’s 62-week history and the highest total of this season by 48 points. Our six losing teams averaged 104.3 points, the fourth highest losing average in league history.

We had two unlucky coaches, and subsequently two lucky ones, for the third week in a row. William had the third best score in the league this week, posting a 9-2 breakdown, but lost to Danny. Brandon had a 6-5 breakdown by faced our top scorer.

On the lucky side of the break, both owners came out of the AFL West. Sean had just the ninth highest score in the league but won against Evan. Andrew had a 5-6 breakdown in his win against Cory.

Our top coach of the week was Cory, who earned 9.5 points by starting Mohamed Sanu over Duke Johnson Jr. Eric was the worst coach of the week, costing his team 7.2 points by starting Brandin Cooks instead of Tevin Coleman. No coach cost or earned his team a win this week.

Every owner had at least one player on the weekly top five list of starters at their positions. Eight owners had two such players and nobody had more than that.

Game of the Week: Brandon Saunders at Anthony Battle

At times on Sunday, Brandon and Anthony were projected to finish as the top two scorers, and within a point of each other to boot. Anthony ended up stretching out to a comfortable win thanks to a monstrous performance by the Chiefs defense and an underwhelming performance by Kareem Hunt.
