Marshawn Lynch did everything he could, gaining 72 yards and this TD, but it was not enough as Seattle fell in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon. |

A lot of analysts didn’t give the 49ers a chance to defend
home field and win on Sunday. I did, as did a couple of my co-hosts on the
Football Freaks. But we still unanimously picked Seattle to win. And we were
unanimously wrong.
Phil Dawson went 4/4, including field goals of 48 and 52
yards and the 49ers offense got back to what won them games before their recent
two-game stretch against poor secondaries.
Frank Gore had a big game with 110 yards on just 17 carries.
Colin Kaepernick gained 31 yards on 9 rushes and the 49ers had 163 total
rushing yards compared to 155 passing yards.
Russell Wilson had a good game, but it wasn’t as good as we
are used to seeing from him and he threw an interception on Seattle’s last
drive which effectively ended their 7-game winning streak.
The biggest factor in San Francisco’s win was their ability
to contain Marshawn Lynch. When he gets going, nothing can stop the Seahawks,
but when you contain him you have a great chance of winning. The 49ers proved
that on Sunday.
Seattle has already clinched a playoff spot but they will
have to wait another week before they can officially clinch the NFC West and
the NFC number one seed.
San Francisco’s win is much more significant. With Arizona’s
win against St. Louis today, the 49ers needed this win to stay ahead of the
Cardinals in the race for 2nd place in the NFC West and the playoff
spot that will likely go to that team.
Final Score:
Seattle Seahawks – 17
San Francisco 49ers – 19
