Sunday Football Afterword: Ravens vs Bengals

Giovani Bernard had another great performance, but the Bengals didn't
use him enough in the 2nd half and the Ravens were able to pull out the win.

Giovani Bernard is so good. There’s no adjective that seems adequate to describe how good he is. If he finishes the season with enough touches, he could be the offensive rookie of the year. He’s fast, he’s quick, he has great hands and better vision and instincts.

Unfortunately for Cincinnati, Andy Dalton followed up last week’s game with another not-so-stellar performance. The Bengals were beyond lucky to force overtime when Baltimore tipped a Hail Mary attempt at the end of regulation right to AJ Green in the end zone.

After getting away from Bernard in the second half, Cincy went back to him in overtime, but Baltimore made a big fourth down stop. Bernard took a screen pass in the flat, reversed field and tried to do what he did to Miami in Week 9’s Thursday night game. Baltimore played it better than Miami did, though, and stuffed him for a big loss and the turnover on downs.

Justin Tucker won the game with a 48-yard field goal.

The Ravens still have serious problems. They did not deserve to win this game after squandering a 17-0 halftime lead. They recorded just 189 total offensive yards compared to 364 by Cincinnati.

The Bengals just deserved to win less. Not only did Dalton struggle for a second straight week, Marvin Lewis came up with poor play calls on his first and last 4th down conversion attempts in the game, and had a poor game plan overall in the contest.

The victory keeps Baltimore’s season alive as they now trail the Bengals by just a game and a half. They’ll get another shot at Cincinnati in the final game of the season.

The Bengals play the Browns next week, then get a much needed bye week to regroup and fix their offensive issues they’ve faced the past two weeks. The good news for Cincinnati is that their defense still looks very good and will at least keep them in games going forward.

Final Score:
Cincinnati Bengals – 17
Baltimore Ravens – 20 (OT)
