A Football Life, Week 1

One week down, 12 to go in the 2014 campaign of my ESPN fantasy football league. It seemed like every team was projected to win at one point and projected to lose at another point during their matchup. Of course, only six teams could win.

Anthony Battle’s squad led the league in scoring in Week 1 with 128.2 points, thanks in part to Calvin Johnson’s 31.2 points in Detroit’s Monday night win over the New York Giants.

William Massimini was a 19.3-point underdog entering his matchup, but scored 121.8 points on the way to a big win. He was the league’s second-highest scorer and will be playing Anthony in the Week 2 game of the week.

The six winning teams from Week 1 averaged 108.7 points. The six losing teams averaged 87.6 points, with the lowest score being 73.4.

Anthony Battle and William Massimini tied for the most starters scoring in the top five at their position this week, each with four. William, however, was the only one to put one player at each position’s (QB, RB, WR, TE) top five.

Check out the review of Week 1 below (team names have been changed to the names of their owners):

Game of the Week: Danny Hatcher at Brandon Saunders

The projected final score flip-flopped throughout the matchup, but big games for Matt Ryan and Matt Bryant in the Falcons win over the Saints allowed Danny to begin his repeat campaign with a big win over Brandon, who he beat in the 2013 AFL Championship.
