Sunday Football Afterword: Week 10 Early Games

The Saints were the first to hand the Falcons a loss in 2012.

What more can I say about the Raiders than that they were not ready for Baltimore. Oakland always seems to struggle on the east coast, but yesterday was particularly troubling. The Ravens scored a franchise record 55 points against a defense that hasn’t been great this year but at least has been physical enough not to give up that many points.

Denver roughed up Cam Newton as Peyton Manning and the Broncos remain undefeated in the final ten games of the season.

The other Manning continues his recent struggles. After playing very well, and even scoring decently in fantasy during New York’s first seven games, his last three have been dismal. He has scored a combined 10 fantasy points in my league and the Giants have gone 1-2, with the win a very lucky on in Dallas and their most recent loss a 31-13 pounding at the hands of the Bengals. New York has a bye week and then a very tough finish to the season, playing Green Bay, Washington, New Orleans, Atlanta, Baltimore, and Philadelphia in their final six games.

I fully expected a good game with a close Dolphins win in Miami, but not only did the Dolphins not win, but it was never close. Tennessee was up 14-0 after the first quarter and 24-3 at halftime. The final was 37-3 and with New England finally heating up some, their season may be in trouble.

Detroit came alive in the final 20 minutes, but the Vikings kept scoring, too, as the Vikings protected home field against the struggling Lions, 34-24.

Last time the Patriots and Bills met, it was a typical Patriots/Bills matchup. Buffalo held a lead for a while, looked like they would finally knock off New England, and suddenly Tom Brady and Co. took off. This time, Buffalo was around to the end, but an interception in the end zone by Ryan Fitzpatrick sealed Buffalo’s fate as they lost 37-31 in New England.

San Diego continues to slump and the Buccaneers continue to come back from some early season losses and are right back in the playoff hunt as the Bucs beat the Bolts in Tampa Bay, 34-24.

And the news of the day, the ’72 Dolphins can finally hold whatever annual celebration they have had every year since their historic season (except maybe in ’07. Nobody knows whether they celebrated New England’s Super Bowl loss as the end of an undefeated run).

The Saints barely held off the Falcons in the Superdome, but barely or not, a win is a win and when it comes against an undefeated division opponent as you try to keep your season alive, no win is bigger. The Saints have to be excited after that win and anybody left on their schedule should be very nervous. I don’t think it will actually happen, but an undefeated run to close the season would not shock me.

Check back later for my Sunday Football Afterword for the four late games. Thanks for reading everyone!
