The Seahawks crushed the Jets to remain undefeated at home
this season. What else is new? The Jets are terrible, only made worse by their
coach’s refusal to actually integrate Tim Tebow into his offense.
After Michael Vick left with a concussion, Nick Foles came
in and actually played pretty well and helped the Eagles take a lead. But a
crazy 4th quarter in which the Cowboys returned a punt 78 yards for
a score, returned an interception 47 yards for a score, and recovered a fumble
in the end zone for another score, ended any hopes of the Eagles doing anything
this season. Meanwhile, the Giants coming back to the pack, suddenly the
Cowboys actually have a shot at a playoff birth.
The 49ers and Rams played to a 24-24 tie. After the game,
players expressed confusion over overtime rules; specifically, many of them
didn’t understand that the game was over and that a second overtime period
would not be played. I really don’t understand how they were so unaware. There
have been ties in the NFL, and though the most recent was four years ago,
players still should not be so confused. Though some overtime rules have
changed, the thing that has remained the same is that multiple overtimes are
only played in postseason contests.
Some people may have found the Sunday Night Game dull, but
not me. I loved seeing a game played in the elements, where the teams not only
had to fight each other but also the weather and field conditions. The Texans
won 13-6, in a game that featured six 1st half turnovers (four by
Chicago and two by Houston) and no turnovers in the second half. It reminded me
quite a bit of Super Bowl XLI where another AFC South dome team beat the Bears
outdoors in a sloppy game played in the elements.
